Bring the whole family and celebrate the wonders of nature this summer! Kid Day at Rodman Preserve and Nature Center is a FREE, drop-in event packed with hands-on fun for children of all ages — and adults too. Stop by anytime between 10 AM and 2 PM for a day of exploration and discovery in one of our region's most beautiful natural settings.

Visit each Discovery Station and earn a Certificate!

Bird Sounds — Listen carefully! Match the bird calls to the correct bird photo.

Insect Journaling — Find an insect. Describe it in your journal (provided) and draw a picture of it. (Magnifying glasses also provided)

Plant Journaling — Find a plant. Describe it in your journal (provided) and draw a picture of it.

Oak Trees Story in Rings — Count the tree rings. Learn how old the tree is and what the weather was like while it was growing up.

Animal Tracks & Pelts — Match the pelts to animal tracks and to animal photos. Guess the name of the animal.

Butterfly Art — Use the rubbing plates and crayons to create your own beautiful butterfly (other insect available too)

Bee Pollination Challenge — Make a bee and help the bee collect and pollinate another flower.

Wetland Discovery — Explore the features of a wetland with journaling your observation of tules, seeing the tiny creatures in the water up close with a Microscope, and coloring key components of wetlands.

Meet the Osprey and Grebe — Learn amazing facts and color a take fish ornament to remember the importance of fish for our Grebes and Ospreys.
Complete all the stations and receive a Junior Naturalist Certificate!
Self-Guided Hikes
Explore the preserve at your own pace on one of three trails:

Towhee Trail (Easy) — A short, leisurely stroll through the garden and tree-shaded paths, perfect for little legs

Qa.Ye Manzanita Trail (Easy | ~1/3 mile loop) — A gentle loop featuring a shaded bench overlook with views of the channel

Vic Barnes Nature Trail and Overlook (Moderate | ~1.5 miles) — Traverse wetlands and climb into a beautiful oak woodland, with several viewing benches along the way to soak in sweeping views of the mountains and Rodman Slough
Admission is FREE. No registration required — just show up and explore!
