Come Celebrate Where We Live!
The Lake County Land Trust, along with the Lake County Library, is pleased to celebrate the National Endowment of the Arts Big Read program with an open house and guided walk on Sept 15 at the Rodman Preserve.
The National Endowment for the Arts' Big Read—in partnership with Arts Midwest—annually provides grants to selected nonprofit organizations around the country to host community-wide reading programs. The goal of the Big Read is to broaden our understanding of ourselves and our neighbors through the power of a shared reading experience. The Lake County Library is a recipient of this grant program and has chosen Andrew Krivak's
The Bear as its selection.
The theme of this year's Big Read is "Where We Live," making this is a perfect time to celebrate the unique aspects of the beautiful Rodman Preserve and Nature Center and to learn how the Land Trust works to protect Lake County's beautiful lands and habitats. This celebration will be open to adults and families and
all visitors will be offered a free copy of The Bear.
A guided nature walk at 9 AM will be led by Redbud Audubon Society's naturalist Donna Mackiewicz. Since this will coincide with the California Academy of Science's Biodiversity Week, Donna will be recording all species observed, with the goal of identifying 30 different plants and animals. Come help us find those thirty!
Or more! We bet we can do more!
Light snacks and water will be provided, or visitors may choose to bring their own lunch to enjoy on the shaded porch of the Nature Center. Land Trust volunteers will be available to accompany walking groups and point out some of
the special aspects of this
very special place.
