Lake County Land Trust Volunteers
Thank You - You Make A Difference
The Lake County Land Trust receives help from many volunteers. They help with a wide range of tasks including fundraising activities, property clean up, easement monitoring , and working in our office. An example is the new face lift on the Rodman Ranch House where volunteers gathered with rakes, chainsaws, weed whips and paintbrushes to return the time worn house into a pleasant country cabin that many passersbys wonder about and take an interest in. It is located on the Nice/Lucerne Cutoff and Westlake Road near Highway 29. Plans are in the works for it to become the trailhead for the guided nature walks and the office of the Rodman Nature Center.
Volunteers were also instrumental in our long and worthy effort to preserve the locally famous Black Forest above the Buckingham Peninsula. Here volunteers have stuffed envelopes, done mailings, helped with property clean-up and continued to monitor the site.
The Lake County Land Trust sponsors several fundraising events throughout the year. We participate in Heron Days - the annual wildlife festival in April, hold an annual dinner - the second Saturday in October, and sponsor an art show at the Rodman Nature Center. A capital campaign to raise the funds needed to renovate (but keep the look of ) the Rodman ranch house is in progress. Local architect, Vince Price has been very generous in his support of this project.
Volunteers have also contributed their time to do clean up and monitoring at Rabbit Hill in Middletown. This small, ten-acre park is open to the public and has a picnic table at the top where visitors can experience scenic views of the Middletown area.
