Brad Barnwell

Brad has been active as a volunteer with the Land Trust for several years. He was named as the 2005 volunteer of the year for the trust at its annual meeting in October. Brad has lived in Lake County since 1982. He is a graduate of the University of Oregon in Eugene with a degree in Parks and Recreation. Brad worked as a seasonal National Park Ranger before joining the United States Coast Guard, serving for over five years. He was an officer in the Coast Guard where he started his active involvement in environmental protection, serving as the Environmental Officer for the western shore of Lake Michigan.

After his Coast Guard Service, Brad worked as an officer for the Lakeport Police for two years and spent the last 20 years with the Lake County Probation Department as assistant Chief Probation Officer. Brad recently retired, and after doing so, was quickly pressed into service on several local non-profit boards including the land trust, the Clear Lake State Park Interpretive Association, and is being eyed by the Redbud Audubon Society as well! He still works occasionally for the Probation Department on special training projects.

Brad and his wife Kathy have been married over 30 years. They love Lake County and enjoy living in Lakeport. Kathy works for the County Administrative Services Department. Brad's hobbies include hiking, fishing, and birding. His special interest is the Rodman Slough Preserve where he is involved with recent renovation projects and trail installation. He was an active member of the Rodman Slough Preserve committee before agreeing to also serve on the board.
